Colored Litters

My breeding program is coming out somewhat how I predicted.I am breeding for Tri colored Holland Lops and Lionheads this year.I'm  using the reds I got last year to help increase the colored portions in the Tris. I purchased a Harli Lop doe and a Tri Torted Buck from THF Saynora and also got another Tri doe from Jared Smith.I bought a Tri buck from Lil Bit Farms that turned out to originally my breeding as I sold a bred doe to someone and she had 7 babies and he in  turn sold a tri buck to Lil Bit Farms.Small world ! So far I have gotten 5 light marked tris and now have 2 Harli's in nest box.The Lionheads will be a year behind as I have to 1st get Harlis and then breed them to the brokens.I do have 2 nice F1 crosses that I will be using in March on Ramona and Beezely.
I will be showing on Jan 14th in Waxahatchie and will have quite a few red and Orange Lionheads and a few Hollands for sale. These are nice bunnies and I just don't need that many of the reds and Oranges.

Tri Colored Holland Lops and Lionheads

Nov 6th. We made it thru the heat with very few losses.Country Critter's Elton was the worst casualty I suffered. The bucks stopped being fertile in June so no babies till last week. It's the 1st litter for my Tri color Project.Bluebonnet Lion's Carerra (DM Orange Lionhead Doe) X THF Saynora Toby (Tri Holland Buck). Had 5 babies,2 Harlis,1 Orange Charlie,1 Tri Charlie,and1 cream. All (SM) but will breed back into Lionheads to strengthen the (DM) gene. The color on the Harlis is excellent.
Just picked up a Tri colored Lionhead Doe from Lori of Mane Frame.Nice bodied doe will breed her to my red buck Cretu to see if I can get more color on the tri side. Also got 3  Holland Lop does from Kelly Bliven. 2 reds and a broken Red.The 2 reds are bred to an orange buck and a red buck.Should be nice babies from both.the Broken Red doe will be bred to Norman my Tri Buck.Norman is fromTrinton and Cobbler ,my own breeding so it staying close to home.Went to cleburne to a show and lapiniere's Lionel took BOB in show B.Gave him to Shannon Roark to use for Fall and maybe he'll come back in Jan for me to use him.Absolutely Gorgeous Buck. I'm focusing alot on the tri program but will still be breeding for deep reds and Oranges in both breeds but I need to get some tri stock started 1st. I think Reds and Tris and Harlis are going to be big colors for next couple of years.Theresa did not pass this year but they were human errors and not so much the animals.Judges like the animals but just did not go by standard.
Dolly had 2 does by Blizzard, gave 1 to Pam and kept 1.Mine broke her back and died so hope she will give me another baby, she is 5 years old already.
Picking up 3 Holland Lop does from Jared Smith when he gets all moved in.Paid for already I think 2 are Tris and 1 harli doe. That sets me up for the next year anyhow.Hopefully will get more Holland babies than last year.

Summertime Doldrums

Well summer is here in Texas. The temps are in the 100's and the rabbits are streatched out to catch any breeze the fans are offering.I'm on my last round of litters and they are exciting.I am housing some of the Lapiniere rabbits for the up coming auction and have bred 3 of them Natasha who is going to Shannon Roark had 4 babies bred to Elton my red buck from Country Critters.Starlight a beautiful Sablepoint was bred to Bearysweet's Irish and also had 4 babies 2 Sable points and 2 REW. It is The middle of July and I have decided to cut way back on my rabbits. Most of them are going to people who I know will take great care of them and if they can't use them, they will pass them along to someone who is just starting out. Most of my Holland Lops have gone to Cindi Hinton Orr who will disperse them to Austin and a friend of his.I will be able to get a couple of babies if I need them so I hope they have as good luck as I had with them.I will be keeping about 7 Hollands which I hope to start breeding in late August as Bogus and RA's Ben are in the house where it is cool. The Lionheads will go mostly to Shannon Roark as she has been a great friend and confidante to me ,answering patiently any questions I have had.She also has Lionheads that are getting up there in age and this will give her some new young fresh blood. I have kept quite a few red Jr.s back in case Lynne Schultz who has the COD on them needs any.The last round of babies has been the most consistent with Confusion giving me a beautiful baby, also Sweethart, and Porsche.Apple has 4 I'm wanting to grow out and Elsa has 2.All are from Elton the Buck from Lynne so Thank you Lynne. The doe from you is doing great and am keeping her.I also have a few new Sable Points that I will be keeping so as you can see I'm not getting out just cutting back .I'm getting old and can't do the things I use to be able to do and am handling more duties at work including marketing and setting up the new online store.

March 23,2011

Well It's almost the end of March and the breeding season is coming along.Have had nice quality babies this winter and spring with the Lionheads having more babies than the Holland Lops.I started getting my 1st Red (DM) Lionheads this year.I'm surprised at how few are in a litter that I would keep. Most of them are that reddish tort color which I guess everyone calls smutty.I get about 1 clean decent red per litter and not all litters have 1.I did get my 1st 2 Cremes this year from Calamity Jane(Chaos daughter) and from Carrerra (Porsche Daughter). They were both bred to Boy George (Zest X Firefoot) so I assume he is the throwing that color.I'll breed his daughter back to him to help solidify that color.
Have not gone to any shows although I have sold a few that the people have shown. 911 a tort doe from Porsche X Cherry Boom won BOB @ Duncan Ok.shows A & B o that's a pretty good sign. I kept Ferrarri from that litter as he has great coloring..I acquired a red (DM) buck from Country Critter's this March and should have babies from him soon.Named him Elton.
In Holland Lops I have a couple of very nice JR.s in Miss Molly (Briania X Ben) and then Jloe ( Juicy Juice X Trinton).I got my 1st Harli and Tri Hollands this month, both in the same litter.Pinot x Trinton ) threw a very colorful litter for me.Also there is a nice baby from Raylee X Ben that I'm watching.
Dolly was line bred back to her red son Jacks/5 and produced a REW .I'm keeping that 1 and the black fro her and Cherry Boom. Have none of her babies but these 2.Am looking forward to some babies this weekend .

January 28th 2011

Well January has come and gone and Fort Worth is just around the corner. Forgot to check the  date for entries and so I missed it. It's ok though because I have a feeling that Rabbit #'s may be down this year as they have changed the days of the show. Now you take the rabbits in on a Weds and Thursday and it's all over by Saturday.
The NTRBC(North Texas Rabbit Breeders Club) has their show in March, but not sure if I'll go to that one either. It seems I am much better off not going to the shows as their is always some type of stupid drama going on. Went to Black land Prairie Show and did not show anything as the judging was taking a long time.It was past 2:30 by the time I decided to leave.Maybe by increasing the entry fee, more questionable rabbits will stay home or people will cull harder . That's my plan.I have had 65 babies since Nov 15th and I'm keeping 4 Red Lion heads ,1 Orange Lion head,1 Fawn,2 REW and about 4 Holland Lops. The rest can go.I'm not keeping anymore (SM) babies and no Torts. The harder I cull the faster I'll reach my goal. Simon (PW) Lion head is looking fantastic  and wouild like to get some comments on him. Julie is giving me about 7 of their Hollands and the Showtell back.Yea! I'm getting her better Hollands and who knows, might just get her to go in on the Hollands with me and start her showing.
Have about 6 litters due in February and have to remember to breed everyone on 2/13/ for Easter Babies @ Roach feed.
The show situation is unfortunate because people have lost total sight of why they got into rabbits in the 1st place. It's all about power and who you can dominate. Whatever happened to a fun time. Till next time Keep the nest boxes full!

New Litters and Bunny Barn

1/11/2011
Well the litters are coming fast and furious. To date since Nov.20 I have 68 babies in both Holland Lops and Lionheads. I have gotten my first (DM) red lionheads this year.It has been 3 1/2 years since I started my hunt for a red Lionhead and I believe Porsche has the better of the 2. The great thing is that I started from scratch and know exactly what went in the making of little Tequila. She is a beautiful dark brilliant red color with a light tail, red belly and tiny ears. In Holland Lops Little Nory bred to Ra's Ben has 2 beautiful babies.Dante the broken red is the better of the 2 and Cobbler has 3 babies that are really gonna be nice. The dark tort is the best of the 2.I have started getting a color called sandy which is new.I have it in Hollands and the Lionheads and I think it has something to do with the red gene but have to do more research on it.
The building is done with stain glass windows all on the north side protecting them from the north wind. Tonight will be in the low 20's so they all have alot of straw in their cages. The new babies will be in the kitchen.Saturday is the Blackland Prairie Show in Waxahatchie.I'll be taking a few Lionheads to sell as the Hollands are not old enough yet but will be in 2 weeks.I will leave you with a thought. Are you a rabbit raiser or a breeder.A raiser is someone who will but her winners but can't breed winners and a breeder is a person who can take average stock, pair them together and consistantly produce great rabbits.Which are you? Do your pedigrees have your name all over it or are you constantly having to buy rabbits to win.?

After Christmas

 December 27,2010
Well I made it thru bthe Christmas season.Had a fantastic  couple of days in the Bunny Port.Campo's Briania(Broken Orange Holland) had a litter of 3 bred to Ra's Ben.Looks like 1 red and 2 broken reds.Bluebonnet Lion's  Porsche (Red Lionhead)came in about an hour later with a litter of 5 bred to D&DL"s Cherry Boom ,my Red DM Lionhead buck. All are red and DM!!!SP's Serenity (REW Lionhead ) had her kits about 3 hours later and has 2 that look like they will be Sablepoints as she was bred to Bastet's Hambone. To end the night Leejutie's Fallen Angel (Tort Lionhead) was also bred to Bastet's Hambone and finished the night with 5 Torts.
Today the 27th of December I had a couple more litters born.Country Critter's Zest (Orange Lionhead) X Bluebonnet Lion's Jacks/5 had a litter of 2,1(DM) Orange and 1(SM) red. My nice Bluebonnet Lion's Ramona (Broken Red Lionhead) was mated to D&DL'S Cherry Boom(Red) and ended up with 4 all (DM) red and Orange. Had 1 Orange doe start it all off this morning by having her litter outside on the wire. There were 6 in that litter.None of these guys were due until the 29th so I don't see what happened.Bluebonnet Lion's Sweetie (Pointed White) who is now owned by Carrol Hooks is due on the 30th bred to Bastet's (Pointed White).I brought her in tonight just in case. Dan's Elle is due on the 31st bred to RA's Ben and that is 1 litter I'm looking forward to.
As you can see the production has really stepped up now that they are all settled in and the weather has turned colder. So far I have 8 litters scheduled to come in January. Most of those will be Holland Lops.I'm hoping to breed a couple of the Hollands to Julie Carter's Bucks. The L&R Buck and their Camelot Buck.
That's it for now ,am planning on showing at the Blackland Prairie Show on January 15th.I will have 4 Lionhead babies for sale there.2 Blacks & 1 Tort and a Blue Tort.
Ciao Tim

December 24th 2010

It's Christmas Eve and I am having a very good day in the Bunny Port (BP). The babies are finally starting to come on schedule.I think between the heat of the summer and the move from the duplex to the new house, really threw them off for awhile.I was worried about not getting anymore babies out of RA's Ben but no need to worry now.Forbes X Bastet's 112 (LH) produced 5,3 were DM and kept the DM Frosty although it might be a SablePoint. Then Chai Tea X Cherry Boom (LH) had her litter of 6.All DM and I believe 2 are reds 1 is a definite doe.I'll keep 3 from this litter.Blue Girl X Bastet112 (LH) had 4 but 2 peanuts. The 2 blacks she had are beautiful.Very small and compact.Country Critters Zest X Legendary Firefoot  (LH) was next with 2 torts.1(DM) 1 (SM).The DM looks pretty nice so far ,we'll see.Pinot X Raz (HL) then had 5 1 red,1 Sable Point,2 Torts and a High Rufus factored Tort..Will keep 2 from this litter.Little Nory X RA's Ben (HL) had 2,a broken red and a Booted red. Both very nice. Will keep both probably.Cobbler X RA's Ben (HL) had 3 babies,2 reds and an Orange.Anxious to see how these turn out.Nice markings on the reds.Carrerra X D&DL's Cherry Boom (LH) had 2 both DM and 1 red ,1 Orange. Then Last night or early this morning all heck broke lose.I'm glad I bought those nest box kits from Frank Bergs as I was madly putting them together while the does were frantically gathering hay and nesting in the corners!  SP's Serenity (REW) X Bastet's Hambone (SP) (LH) has 3 in her nest, Porsche X D&DL's Cherry Boom (LH) had her litter of 5,all DM and looks like all might be red.Briania(Br.Orange) X RA's Ben (Red) (HL) had a live litter finally of 4.Brokens and 1 solid.Fallen Angel (Tort) X Bastet's Hambone) SP (LH) then had her litter a few hours later with 5in it.I'm now waiting for Sweethart X Jacks/5 (LH) to have her's tonight. She is pulling hair like crazy so hopefully she has them in the box. So as you can see it has been a very peaceful Christmas Eve here and I could not have asked for better presents than all the DM red Lionheads I've gotten. Next week on the 29th there are 6 does due3 Lionheads and 3 Holland Lops.Very exciting time in the garage right now.
I'm hoping to make it to Nationals in the last week of April this year.I have 3 Lionheads I really like alot 2 Oranges (brother and Sister) and a Pointed White buck.I'm going to take the 2 bucks to Waxahatcie in Jan.to see how they do.I hope that show is alot less dramatic than the 1 at Clebourne was. That lady in Murphy sure does talk alot of trash about other breeders.I feel it is unethical behaviour when a new breeder comes to you asking advice about a rabbit and you trash that rabbit to the new person so they back out of buying it ,and then turn around and buy it for yourself. This person should not be allowed to show under ARBA Rules. And they said my behaviour at Fort Worth was unbecoming a member!!! Sheeesh! Anyway she is old crap and it's a new year so maybe she'll just crawl away into her hole. I'm going to help out the lady that got ripped off by her though.Just to show her that not all breeders are like that. I hope all of you have a great 2011 and that the does breed ,deliver and hit the nest boxes 100% of the time.

Concentrating on Red and Orange

Hi ya'll ,This is my first attempt at a blog. So bear with me. I have decided to really concentrate on the colors of Red and Orange in Holland Lops and Lionheads. I know there are not alot of either of these colors available but hopefully I can help make it possible. I think by hybridizing ,that I will get there fairly fast and I'm willing to do alot of the leg work for those who are interested in seeing these colors become possible
At this time I'm using a Thriantia buck Holmann's T811 and a Red Netherland Dwarf buck Krall's R7.I'm also using a SM orange Lionhead  buck. I have a litter of 5 SM orange Lionheads. 1 is very clean which I will use and 1 is fairly clean of smuttiness. 3 have alittle ticking on them but are very pretty orange.I also have a new litter of 3 of the Thriania x and a DM Tort Lionhead. Babies are a very dark red. The last litter is from Mossypossum's Ghost (REW) Holland Lop x Krall's R7. 2 babies a very even red color.I'll attach pics of them
